During the midday heat of a week-long dance festival, my dear friend Jo handed me a sip of her day-glow orange elixir. The vibrant color caught my eye, but it was the burst of deliciousness that truly amazed me. Jo, ever so generous, has shared her simple yet splendid recipe with us. But before we dive into it, let me tell you—Jo isn’t just a master of golden elixirs; she’s also the Creatrix behind BeLeaf Jewelry, including the beautiful septum jewelry I often wear.
Now, let’s get to making this refreshing tonic that’s as nourishing as it is delightful!
What You’ll Need:
How to Make It:
- Start by juicing turmeric and ginger to create a root concentrate.
- Add a few tablespoons of this concentrate to 24 ounces of sparkling water.
- Squeeze in some lemon and sweeten with stevia or honey—voilà, your golden elixir is ready!
- Feel free to experiment with ingredients until you find your perfect blend.
For those who prefer it hot, try making this tonic as a tea:
- Boil four cups of water.
- Add one teaspoon of ground turmeric and fresh ginger, then simmer for 10 minutes.
- Strain into a cup, sweeten with honey, and add lemon to taste.
Turmeric, a relative of ginger, has been revered for centuries for its culinary and medicinal properties, particularly its anti-inflammatory benefits. Dr. Andrew Weil highlights its potential as a preventive agent for various diseases.
“Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a culinary spice, a major ingredient in Indian curries, and the source of American mustard’s bright yellow color. Used as both medicine and food for centuries, accumulating evidence suggests that this relative of ginger is a promising preventive agent for a wide range of diseases, probably due largely to its anti-inflammatory properties.”
So, whether you’re sipping this tonic chilled or warm, embrace the wellness benefits and savor the magic of this golden elixir.

AMAZING! Really loved it and helped a lot for my (very too big) cold.
Trick: I made a huge quantity of curcuma-ginger juice (with the stevia inside) and froze everything in an ice tray. This way, I can keep it for a long time and just have to cut some pieces of lemon, throw it in a glass with a ginger-curcuma ice cube and pour sparkling water over it! I did the same thing to have it as a tea: Put a ginger-curcuma ice cube in a cup with some lemon, pour boiling water over it and voilà!
This sounds divine!!! I will definitely try it soon. I love Nancy’s ice-tray idea.
Btw, you can drop the accent on “salud”, it’s not needed.
¡Salud!

Hello,
Do you have a detox drink without ginger? I’m highly allergic and I cannot seem to find one.
Ahhh…that’s no fun. Sorry luv. I don’t have one handy.
To make the tonic all you have to do is boil the ginger turmeric with honey then combine it with lemon juice and refrigerate overnight. The next day you strain the liquid, pour into a glass with ice for serving and top with soda water and cracked pepper. So simple! I chose to keep it virgin because this is a health-inspired website, after all. Of course you could add alcohol if you wish, but that would probably cancel out the anti-inflammatory effects. It s totally up to you.
